Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to go live from Monday 20‌‌ April.

The anticipated demand to use the portal (estimated at 2 million employers) is likely to exceed the capacity (anticipated at 40,000) by a significant margin. So be prepared for the site to crash and not just once, at least until the system beds in.

It is important that you have all your information and calculations ready before you begin your application. There will be

  • No save and return function, if you exit you will lose all data already entered!

  • A time out function that will throw you out after a period of inactivity (for example when you search for data you have not previously gathered together)

  • No special access to the portal for accountants or payroll bureaux. We will have to put up with the problems of the portal just the same as employers

  • You cannot make changes to your claim once it has been submitted.

  • HMRC have not disclosed in advance the sequence in which data is to be entered onto their portal!

If we prepare your payroll for you, we will be able to help you with the provision of the data and if HMRC accept that we are authorised for e-PAYE for you we may be able to prepare the claim for you.

You should retain all records and calculations in case we need to contact you about them. You must keep your records and calculations for SIX YEARS!

How to calculate your claim

There will also be a calculator available when the system goes live on Monday for you to check your calculations online before you make your claim.
